Several decades of community involvement was recognized under one roof Aug. 25.
Al Potvin, Sherryl Smith and Jane Torrance were honoured with Mississippi Mills Community Builder awards during the inaugural ceremony at Almonte Old Town Hall. Council adopted the new awards program back in the spring as a way to recognize the leadership of those who have fostered positive change in the municipality.
“We are a community of givers and these volunteers that provide so much to our community, they’re really the pillar of Mississippi Mills and a reflection of all that’s good in our community,” remarked Mayor Christa Lowry. “The recipients this evening, they serve as an example for all of us, teaching us to give of our time, of our talents, of ourselves, as gifts for the greater good of our community.”
